Many books have been written celebrating the plus-size
woman. These books encourage self-love, self-acceptance,
and urge society to view the plus-size woman as an equal
and not an outcast. Few authors, however, have explored
the wonderful dynamics between plus-size women and the
men that love them.
Contrary to popular belief, there are millions of men
who adore and, in fact, prefer women of size. These
men are as turned on by soft round bellies and beautiful
triple Ds, as men who are stimulated by the cosmetically
and surgically enhanced physiques of magazine models.
Unfortunately, we rarely read about the lovers of voluptuous
women in today's popular magazines. And, sadly, most
of these men have been taught to conceal their preference
and their desire for full-figured women from family,
friends, and society in general..
Fear of discovery often causes men to develop a variety
of covert strategies for securing contact with the plus
size women the truly desire.. As a full-figured women
gains awareness of this fear, it may also lead her to
accept a series of undercover relationships simply to
quiet her own fears of being alone.
One of the country’s latest “sneaky-hook-up-strategies”
is a disturbing culture of underground social clubs,
such as those on the West Coast, who cater exclusively
to full-figured women and their admirers. In these often
dark, cavernous, dungeon-like meat markets, men may
pursue their secret desire in secret; never having to
bring the object of their passion into the light of
day.
2008 will give the world a revealing new book that
focuses on these and other aspects of the complex relationship
between full-figured women, their lovers, families and
friends. This sexy and exciting new work, entitled Courage
to Love, is a collaboration between celebrated Actor,
Author, and Educator GregAlan Williams and Women’s
Rights Activist and Businesswoman Jennene Biggins, a
pioneer in the struggle for the equality of plus-size
women in the American culture.
Courage to Love shatters popular notions
often associated with romance and plus-size women. Biggins
and Williams bring to life the sometimes hurtful and
scaring attitudes displayed by fathers, mothers, and
others concerning the full-figured girls and women in
their lives.
Courage to Love defines the kind of
courage a man must possess in order to be open and honest
about his preference for full-figured women. This kind
of courage is essential, especially in the face of a
hateful and discriminatory culture which has taught
him, from his earliest beginnings, that full-figured
women are barely worthy of his time, love or attention
- a society that, in fact, ridicules the man who publicly
proclaims his romantic choice.
Courage to Love calls on men to display
such courage and encourages women of size to nurture
this kind of courage in their men. Without apology,
the authors strongly advise full-figured women to dump
and discard, (with quickness!) men who lack such courage
or who, at the very least, lack the potential to develop
such courage. Ultimately, through moving and insightful
prose, real life interviews, insightful research, and
personal growth exercises, the authors move the reader
toward the kind of individual healing required to achieve
the ultimate and primary kind of courage, the courage
to love oneself.
